L (-) -Phenylephrine Hydrochloride Description:
Phenylephrine ophthalmic causes constriction of blood vessels in the eyes. It also enlarges the pupils, reduces the production of fluid in the eyes, and increases the amount of fluid that drains from the eyes.
Phenylephrine ophthalmic available over-the-counter is used to relieve redness, burning, irritation, and dryness of the eye caused by wind, sun, and other minor irritants. Prescription-strength phenylephrine ophthalmic is used to constrict blood vessels in the eye and to dilate (make bigger) the pupil for conditions such as glaucoma, before surgery, and before eye examinations.
Phenylephrine ophthalmic may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
L(-)-Phenylephrine hydrochloride Application:
L(-)-Phenylephrine hydrochloride May be useful to control shock following pheochromocytomectomy, but shock generally can be prevented by maintenance of adequate blood volume and/or preoperative administration of an-adrenergic blocking agent.
L(-)-Phenylephrine hydrochloride used to produce vasoconstriction as an adjunct to correct hemodynamic imbalances in the treatment of shock that persists after adequate fluid volume replacement
L(-)-Phenylephrine hydrochloride May be ineffective if severe peripheral vasoconstriction exists and may have a
deleterious effect by causing further reductions in plasma volume and blood flow to vital organs.
L(-)-Phenylephrine hydrochloride May be used to treat hypotension or shock resulting from overdosage of or
idiosyncratic reactions to certain drugs.
